The Larsons at Hokuriku Gakuin University

Hokuriku Gakuin University

Our classes and the office we share are in the white building (background).

Gavin Lynch has been our main contact and worked tirelessly to help orient us.

Some of Our Classes
Between the two of us, we teach 5 classes and a total of 65 students.
This is David's university English class.

Here is Susan's Junior College Speech Communication class.

David's research is the basis for his Drama for English class.

Participating in H.G.U. events is a fun part of our work here.
This is the annual H.G.U. Festival - something like our homecoming.

Speaking Opportunities
Hishida-Sensei has graciously invited us several times to speak at the daily chapel.
Susan asked two of her students provide the translation for her first talk.
Working with these young women was a highlight.

David gave a dramatization of the life of Peter at another chapel.
Unfortunately we don't have photos of that!

We also spoke at the Junior College retreat.
We used a soccer ball to demonstrate the importance of trajectory in launching a career.

And we spoke at Christmas about our American Christmas memories.
Yoneda-Sensei translated.

Also at the retreat we sat in on a discussion of career planning
with one small group.

And enjoyed food and fellowship with other professors,
here, Gotoda-Sensei, McKeurtan-Sensei, and Lynch-Sensei.

Speaking of food, here are four student whom we both teach
having pizza with us at our apartment,
such bright, engaging folks!

The Larsons at Kanazawa Baptist Church

 Kanazawa Baptist Church
 Our church home, away-from-home.

It would be difficult to find a warmer or more welcoming church body!

Even though the service is conducted in Japanese, hymns and bulletins are always printed for us in a combination of English and romaji.

We were greeted with a welcome party one Sunday night which included a beautiful flower arrangement and origami cranes.

Speaking of flower arrangements, Pastor Taguchi is pictured here
with  his oldest parishioner, Mizakuri-San who creates flower arrangements every Sunday for the church. (She's 95!)

Taguchi-Sensei takes us shopping at Omicho fish market.

And we do our best to add to the fun at K.B.C.'s kindergarten festival!

Susan helped American missionary Dana Huckabay
organize a Women's Fellowship meeting.

Susan with Yuko-San and (in her Christmas kimono) Tomoko-San,
both faithful members at K.B.C.

A few members of our English Sunday School Class.
After the Huckabays left in December, we were asked to teach the class.

Just one more example of the generosity of this body - Heraba-San treats our family, visiting from the States, to an elaborate and exquisite
osechi New Year's dinner.

Junko-Sensei, Taguchi-Sensei's wife, created this as we all chatted over tea after one Sunday evening service.
